The New Year is here and I hope everyone is well and everybody had a
great Christmas. Some of our troops are home and we hope the rest will
be home soon, safe and sound. Please continue to support our troops
overseas and at home. Do whatever you can and it will be greatly
appreciated. We are still in need of Bingo workers. If you would like to work at least one night a month, please let us know. The boys and girls who won our local Hoop Shoot will be going on to the District Shoot. It will be held at Owego Lodge on January 24, 2004. We wish them all great success and you are all winners. That's all for now. If anyone has anything for the Newsletter, please give it to me, so I can put it in next month. As always, take care and be careful in everything you do. Fraternally,

Ladies Auxiliary News
Our December meeting was well attended and everyone enjoyed the
delicious covered dish supper. We discussed many issues including
having another 50/50 raffle to benefit the Scholarship Fund, a request
from the men for volunteers to work Bingo and an update on the Bingo
Kitchen. As always, we still have a shortage of workers for the Bingo
Kitchen and if anyone can volunteer to work, even just once in awhile,
it would be greatly appreciated.

ALONE
You
would think that if someone, namely me, that liked to be alone and
doesn't like kids, cats or people, would not have many friends. On the
contrary. I seem to have many friends. Many that I probably don't know
about.
There are many people that I don't like. Some of those same people like me. And there are many people I like, but they don't like me. Oxymoron? Why can't we all just get along? I think most of us travel through life with expectations that are so below what life is really all about. And, as we gain energy and start spinning in life's reality, we usually find out when it is too late and have missed the boat. Understanding what I'm saying may be difficult for some. But, I guarantee you that almost anyone over the age of 60, looking back at their life, knows exactly what I'm saying. Not that it's a prerequisite to be 60 to understand. The Elks, through examination of all its ritual writings, has taught me many, many lessons in life. Let's face it, it is generations and generations of words that have been challenged and chal-lengedand has neveF-beea-evertumed. Words changed, maybe, but not meaning. So the dilemma is this. We are here, we can't turn back. Some want to change but can't. Some won't know enough to change until it is too late. As for myself, I enjoy being alone. I just want to be myself and let self take over my life. On the other hand, as most of you know, I love partying. It doesn't seem to matter with whom. Or for that matter, just being alone. I like that expression, "should a, would a, could a, had a, ought a". That's life in a nutshell! And, you can't go back to do the "should a". It's too late. You have to propel from here. Picking up the pieces isn't the answer. Starting now is! I'll guarantee you that if I did housework at home, my wife would say, "What's up with that?" So I rest my case, dear, I don't dare to "should a". Now if I always did housework, that would be okay. No eyebrows raised there. So a new start doesn't mean to change, but to start. "As time runs on, in sun and shade, may you bear with you ever in life's changing course the sense of obligation and of wrong, and in your heart the rapture of a high resolve". "Life's story has been often told, yet all must solve anew its problems for themselves". Tom Adams, PER |
