Drugs are Killers - Watch Your Children

January is gone and February is upon us. It is still cold out, but we all are thinking spring. It is time to give our loved one something special for Valentine's Day - dinner, new outfit or something that means, "I Love You".
February is the time that the P.E.R.s get our new slate of officers lined up for next year. So, if anyone wants to hold a chair, come forward and see one of our P.E.R.s and let them know. We will make our slate of officers at our P.E.R.'s meeting on April 4th, 2004 at 7:30 PM.
The House Committee is having a Chicken Bar-B-Q on Valentine's Day. The hours are from 2:00 to 6:00 PM and you can get a full meal or 1/2 chicken. Come on down and buy your tickets early. See article inside for the ticket locations.
That is all for now. If anyone has anything for the Newsletter, let me know and I will get it in. Take care and be safe.

Fraternally,
Wayne Hubbell, ER, PER, PSVP

SPECIAL NOTICE ABOUT DUES
Once again the dues for 2004-2005 are being printed right on the bulletin instead of receiving an individual mailing. This invoice is for Sidney members only and not for friends, widows or members from other lodges who receive our bulletin.
This is being done once again to save the Lodge about $ 150 in the cost of stamps, not to mention the high cost of invoice forms and envelopes. Last years dues collection was a huge success and I hope we can continue it again this year. On your bulletin you receive in the mail, just tear (or cut) off the form which already has your name on it, and mail it along with your check payable to:

Sidney Elks Lodge No.
2175
Todd Henchey, Secretary
104 River Street
Sidney, NY 13838

Below you will find the costs for the upcoming year 2003-2004. If you are unsure what type of member you are, or how much your dues are, please contact me Sunday mornings between             8:00 AM-10:00 AM at 563-2175 and I will be happy to help you.

Fraternally,
Todd J. Henchey, PER, Secretary

 DUES for 4/1/04-3/31/05
   Regular- $40
Honorary Life Member- $16
Life Member- $16

On January 10th the Lodge hosted the 4th Annual DARE Spaghetti Dinner. In spite of the extremely cold weather and another dinner being held elsewhere, 170 people braved the elements to support the cause.
Special thanks again to the Franklin Crew who, in spite of short notice, provided another outstanding meal, which was enjoyed by all.
Members from the Lodge, Sidney Police Department and the Sidney Police Department Explorer Post served the meal and cleaned up.
I would like to take a moment and thank everyone who helps and supports our Drug Awareness programs. From the dinner to our Halloween Party or DARE Dances, I am truly thankful for everyone who helps out.
There are too many to name and I am afraid I might forget someone, so to everyone I say, Thank You.

Jan Gorshack
Drug Awareness Chairman

Complacency, Help!

During this past year I have been complacent with the Lodge, Lodge business, and even at the bar. I'm not alone, but this is about my thoughts, not what other members do.
On the contrary, I have seen 2 or 3 couples and a few individuals that have done just the opposite. They have become involved in the Lodge and some of its functions. That makes fora healthy Lodge.
It's the time of the year that, we as members, are considering a new Exalted Ruler. Considering what I did as Exalted Ruler, or anyone else did that has held that position, should be left in the past. We need to support "her" in any way we can.
For those that are not aware, the first job of Exalted Ruler elect will have is to appoint the Esquire, Inner Guard and Chaplain. Then comes the stressful and awesome task of filling the other chairs. Filling those chairs with preferably no Past Exalted Rulers.
Complacency, Help! I need to get off my duff and get to work assisting the Exalted Ruler elect to find members to fill the chairs. Help, it's your obligation as a member to assist "her" to find Officers and give those names to "her".
The slate of Officers will be presented to the P.E.R.s in February. I hope this message will get to you in a timely manner for that slate. Your suggestions are encouraged and welcomed!
