Drugs are Killers - Watch Your Children

Welcome to the New Year. With the new year, comes a new Exalted Ruler, Officers, Chairman, and new members along the way. We also have previous officers and chairman that have volunteered to remain another year to help me out, thank you.
Being Exalted Ruler for the first time is new to me and also our lodge, since we have never had a female Exalted Ruler. I will do my best to meet all the expectations, but I know it can't be done alone. I know that I have a lot of support behind me, which I'm very grateful for. With all the help and support, it will be a successful year. We're still looking for a Leading Knight, and also a few chairman to fill spots on the Statutory Committee. A lot of people don't like to commit or don't want to face a challenge. Everyday we all face challenges and make it through. "Our time upon the stage of action is but brief if we all played a part, what a lodge this would be!

Fraternally,
Sue Fletcher, ER

The 15th Annual SCD Elks Drug Quiz Show was held on February 21st at the Johnson City Police/Court Facility. Maine Endwell was the winner of the Regional Title and will go on to represent Broome County in the Eckerd Semi-Finals on March 31st. Andes Central took the Delaware County spot and will also compete in the Semi-Finals.
The 15th Annual Drug Quiz Show was a huge success and would not have been possible without the support of the 10 Elks Lodges of the South Central District, This is only the 2nd year we have been coordinating this project on our own, and our growth is slow but sure. It could take several years to include all the areas we encompass and it is difficult to convince some schools to participate. If anyone has an "in" at one of your area middle schools please let us know and we will arrange a DQS presentation at that school.
A special Thank You to the following Lodges that supplied the manpower that made this event a great success:
Binghamton #852
Endicott #1977
Johnson City #2821
Sidney #2175

Thank you again.

Fraternally,

Kathy Neiss, DQS Regional Coordinator
