Drugs are Killers - Watch Your Children

Spring is here and it is going to be another busy month at the Elks. The New York State Elks Spring Convention will be taking place at the Nevele Grande Lodge May 4th through the 7th. This event brings Elks together from throughout New York to discuss matters concerning the Elks and to Install the new State Officers for the next years term. If any members of the Lodge are interested in making a day trip to the convention , please let me know and I will try to coordinate a trip for all interested.
Through the month we also have all of the normal monthly activities such as Lodge and Committee meetings, Bingo, and Friday Night Kitchen. This month the 5th Annual Sidney Elks #2175 Golf Tounament will also be held on Saturday May 13th and I am looking forward to seeing all the teams that have signed up at Sundown Golf Course for all the fun. We will also be hosting a Mother's Day Breakfast at the Lodge on Sunday May 14th. This is always a lot of fun and good food for all who attend.
The week of May 22nd we are going to be updating our kitchen to make working Dinners and Banquets easier for all. Please bare with us through the mess and confusion, the end results should make things better for all.

Fraternally,
Jason Hager, ER

Ladies Auxiliary News

I look at May as a month of remembrance. It's time to remember and pay tribute to mom's and the men and women who have and are serving this great country. I find this time to be humbling as I reflect on how far we have come. I look forward to the future.
The Craft Show/Bake Sale was, successful and profitable for the Auxiliary. I appreciate all the help I received to accomplish this. Hope Page has volunteered to be Bingo Kitchen chairperson; she is working on many ideas to find a way to increase our business on Thursday nights. The Scholarship commitee is working on choosing candidates for the coming year.
We are looking for someone to be our Historian. Maybe you are not a" meeting person" but you could keep our history up to date. We would send you pictures and news, etc. if interested please call me. We are also looking for Bingo Kitchen crews. If we could get 4 - 5 crews that would be great, even if you can only work once every couple of months would be terrific. Remember Bingo Kitchen is our main moneymaker. I can be reached at 265-3804 evenings or 434-6238 to leave a message on my voice mail. Also you can e-mail me at carriagelady630@hotmail.com
Our May meeting is on the 8th at 6:30. Hope to see you there. Prayers and thoughts to those who may not be feeling so well or cannot be here with us.            God bless us all.

Respectfully,
Robinanne Little
Auxiliary President

Reminder - - If you are moving South for the Winter, please turn your change of address into the Secretary.

Thank you from Marilyn Reynolds

To my Family and my Dear Friends at the Sidney Elks Lodge, I've been thinking about this letter for days. I've come to the conclusion that there just are not the right words to express how I feel.
The amount of work and planning it took to put on the benefit like the one you all gave me was incredible. For me to just say "Thank You" doesn't begin to tell you what it is in my heart! Everyone that attended had a wonderful time enjoying the food - music - raffles -auctions and the whole night in general. I know I wouldn't have missed it for the world and appreciated every minute. I've never experienced anything like this before. For the Elks to do something like this for one of their members shows the kind of caring, loving people involved in this organization.

Sincerely,
Marilyn Reynolds

Wing Day Stats

Your continued support comes with heartfelt thanks. We had a record day thanks to you. We served 149 dozen (our previous was 130 dozen) and sold out in 2 hours. We apologize to those we had to turn away and promise to try not to let that happen next ime. We did cook all 200 lbs. (5 cases), and we are trying to see our way to do another case next time. Our profit for the day was $155.00. Not a lot of money for the work but the camaraderie is what makes it worthwhile. With the 149 dozen we sold this time it brings our total to 2,072 dozen this crew has served to you. On the next wing day we will be giving away a prize to the person that orders the 2,175th dozen.

For the record:
Cooking time: 2 hr. 43 min.
Cooking time per doz.: 1.3 min.
No. of Workers: 7
Total hours worked: 41

CHERISHED RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES

Recently one of our members passed away. His family was unaware of the cherished rights and privileges which come to us automatically and which our whole power and authority will insure and protect. Among these is the right to have an Elk funeral performed and even to have our Lodge put on a small buffet to follow the funeral service.
The son of our deceased member was unaware of these rights and privileges until I discussed them with him. While it was too late to do an Elk funeral or set up the light buffet, we did the eleven o'clock toast for the family and friends of Bill Pitcher. Bill's son, Billy, was most grateful and personally thanked me profusely for only doing that to which his Dad was entitled.
I certainly suggest to all members, during their lifetimes, to let their loved ones know and to avail themselves of these cherished rights and privileges.

CHARITY, FIDELITY AND BROTHERLY LOVE

Recently our brother, Bill Pitcher, a member of our Lodge since it's foundation, died. Many of our members play in the-pitch league, or play other card games. They frequently use those clever wooden tables that fold and store away so easily. They are Lacquered over raw wood, are attractive and quite utilitarian. I purchased eight of them for my home use. Bill Pitcher make them by hand and donated them to our Lodge. He practiced our credo of Charily, Brotherly Love, and with Fidelity, joined us on many a Friday evening for dinner.
So, in the future, whenever you use those tables, think of Bill, who spent painstaking hours making them and donated them from his heart to our Lodge. Rest in peace, Brother Bill.
