I
would like to apologize to the membership for the untimely release of
this, the August news bulletin. It is my fault and mine only. So I'm
sorry and I'm pretty sure this won't happen again. Now, onto better
things. In July, I attended the Grand Lodge National Convention in Reno, Nevada. The opening ceremony on Sunday evening was spectacular. A parade of Past Grand Exalted Ruler's was the highlight with GER Jim McQuillan giving the opening remarks and welcoming everyone to the Convention. There were tributes to our military personnel who have sacificed everything, even their lives to ensure our freedom. On mornings Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday there were business meetings lasting through the mornings. Wednesday morning was when the voting took place on all the propositions for changing some by-laws or adding new by-laws. If my memory serves me correctly, there were 24 propositions. It was quite a learning experience for me. The room the meetings were held in was huge and seeing everyone in attendance was next to impossible without binoculars. Yes, one could have gotten lost as there were over 7,000 Elks at some of these meetings. I made a lot of new acquaintances and solidified friendships with people I met at our State Convention in May. I'm sure in a future newsletter, I will published the results of voting on propositions that took place at the Grand Lodge National Convention. At this time, I haven't seen the results as of the printing of this newsletter. I was proud to represent our Lodge at this Convention and I thank all for you for giving me the opportunity. Fraternally,
Ralph Gschwind,ER
