The time is flying by and the leaves are falling from the trees.
November is here and the weather is getting colder. Fall is time for
the Officer training session and all of my Officers will need to take
it. I will try and set up a time that everyone can attend. November is "Elks Veterans Remembrance Month". We, as Elks, will help our Veterans. We stand by the words "As long as there are Veterans... the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them". Please take time to go visit the Veterans Home in Oxford and visit with our Veterans there. They would love it. The Travel Dinner for our District will be held at the Johnson City Lodge #2821 on November 21st. Please come one and all to represent and support our District. Thanksgiving is fast upon us. That means that it is time for families to get together and have have fun and give our thanks. Let's also remember to give thanks to those men and women who are fighting the war for us. They will be thousands of miles away from their families. Just keep them in your thoughts this holiday season. The bar will be closed Thanksgiving, so enjoy the holiday. Happy Thanksgiving!!! If anyone would like to submit an article for the Newsletter, please give it to me as soon as possible so that we can get it in next month's Newsletter. Take care and be safe. Fraternally,

"WHY I AM PROUD TO SAY THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE"
The events of 9/11 are becoming a memory that will not be forgotten but will always be put aside as we return to the daily routine with old attitudes. The American Values, which are the basics of freedom and democracy, are left to the comments of newspaper editorials and patriotic holidays. The values, traditions and principles that unite us have again been moved down the list of priorities.
As Elks it is our duty to instill awareness of our heritage andimplement patriotic programs that will quicken the spirit of patriotism. With the fall season comes the opportunity to promote programs that will reach the youth of this nation. The GIL Americanism Essay Contest is a program that encourages writing skills and captures the thoughts of students on "Why I Am Proud To Say The Pledge Of Allegiance", is a thought provoking exercise that cannot fail to build patriotism in young Americans.
Whether it is a parochial, private or public school, there should be a concerned educator who is willing to participate in the program and every Lodge has a member who could help make the proper contact. Every Lodge should copy and distribute the enclosed invitational poster in the local school system and, if possible, publish it in the local newspaper and Lodge Bulletin. Communication and enthusiasm are critical to the success of this opportunity to reach the leaders of tomorrow. Let us not forget our heritage, the cost of freedom and the American Principles upon which this Nation was founded. Lodge participation in GIL Americanism Programs will insure that we lead by example in preserving the Values upon which this Nation was founded.
